Protect Your RV's Tires for A Safe Journey!

Mainline Truck Team • August 20, 2022

No one wants to have a tire blowout while they're heading down the highway with their RV.  Occasionally blowouts can't be avoided, especially if there's sharp debris on the road - but in many cases, you can protect your tires and keep your ride going for a long time.

At Mainline Truck & RV Service, we specialize in providing the services you need to keep your RV running smoothly, including tires and the best RV suspension upgrades in Ohio. Here are some tips for protecting your tires!

Four Ways to Prevent Unnecessary RV Tire Blowouts

1 - Don't overload your RV

When going out on a journey, there's a temptation to take everything you think you might need - but keep in mind that both your RV and trailer will have weight limits. If you put too much weight on your tires, they'll be much more likely to blow out during the journey. This is especially true if they're already worn down.

2 - Overheating

Heat buildup in tires can cause them to blow out since heat causes expansion. This is a particular concern during the summer, when the roads may be extremely hot to start with. However, going too fast on the tires will also encourage them to overheat. Be aware of what speeds your RV tires are rated for and don't exceed that speed for long periods, or heat buildup will become a problem.

3 - Over- or under-inflated tires

Your tires want a very specific air pressure, which is specified in your manual. Always make sure your tires are properly inflated to spec when you're setting out on a long journey. Over- or under-inflating them can lead to unnecessary tire damage.

4 - Suspension problems

If the suspension in your RV is in poor condition (and, sadly, a lot of RVs come with substandard suspension), this can lead to damaging your tires.  The best RV suspension upgrades will protect your tires, while also providing a smoother ride.
